10/7 Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary

The Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta the Little Daughter of the Divine Will
Outside the House of the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Zeal
in Corato, Italy
(Notice the rosary in her left hand)

The following excerpts are from
“A Collection of Memories of the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta” by Fr. Bucci.

…On October 7, 1928, when the house of the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Zeal in Corato was ready, Luisa was taken to the Convent in accordance with the wishes of Saint Annibale Di Francia. Saint Annibale had already died in the odor of sanctity in Messina.
(Saint Anniable Maria Di Francia died on June 1, 1927 A.D., comforted by a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom he so dearly loved. On October 7, 1990 he was declared “Blessed” by Pope John Paul II. He was canonized on May 16, 2004, by Pope John Paul II.)

… On October 7, 1938, because of orders from above, Luisa was obliged to leave the convent and find a new place to live. She spent the last nine years of her life in a house in Via Maddalena, a place which the elderly of Corato know well and from where, on
March 8, 1947, they saw her body carried out.

CHAPTER NINE

Luisa, the terror of demonic forces

… One lady said that she had gone to live in a house at
Rotondella in the Province of Matera, where she had been appointed to teach at
an elementary school. However, she had felt very ill at ease in that house
because there was frequently a man in it with a terrible look who would try to
grab her; but the lady defended herself by holding up the rosary she had in her
hands; at the sight of it he would flee. The distraught lady left everything and
returned to Corato with her children. No one believed the poor soul and she was
thought to be out of her mind, especially by her husband who had Masonic
leanings. Completely at a loss as to what she should do, she went to see Luisa,
who listened to her kindly, comforted her, told her not to be frightened because
the devil had no power over her, and urged her to return to her work. The lady
took her advice, but wanted to take a photograph of Luisa with her: she had it
framed and put it on her bedside table. One evening, while she was reciting the
Holy Rosary with her children, she saw the man again. He approached the bed,
took the picture of Luisa, threw it on the floor and fled shrieking. From that
moment nothing further happened; peace and serenity returned to the house. The
photograph of Luisa which had been violently thrown on the floor was not
damaged, indeed the glass did not even break. This framed photograph is now in
the house of the lady’s daughter-in-law, on her bedside table. …

Luisa Piccarreta; “The Person”
(From Fr. Bucci’s Web Site)

… After dinner, Luisa would retire to meditate and pray for about three hours. In the late afternoon several pious women, among whom were the sisters Cimadomo, and they began to pray the holy Rosary in its entirety, with meditations that Luisa had on the Divine Will.

After everyone had left, Luisa would close herself in prayer. Her little room was closed and during this time she daily, in obedience to the directives of her confessor who had ordered her to write everything down without neglecting a single detail, she would write down that which occurred between herself and Our Lord.

Volume 25 – October 7, 1928

The Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta the Little Daughter of the Divine Will:

Then, the evening came of this day consecrated to the Queen of the Rosary (October 7, 1928), Queen of Victories and of Triumphs.  And this is another Beautiful Sign that, just as the Sovereign Lady (the Blessed Virgin Mary) conquered Her Creator, and bejeweling Him with Her chains of love, She drew Him from Heaven to earth, to make Him form the Kingdom of Redemption, so will the sweet and powerful beads of Her Rosary make Her Victorious and Triumphant again before the Divinity, conquering the Kingdom of the Divine Fiat, to make It come into the midst of creatures.

Summary

An ordinary housewife, a mother and grandmother who had no formal education and no knowledge off the Bible or theology claimed that she was visited by the Blessed Mother daily for a period of over 6 years. She reportedly additionally received 68 messages from Jesus Christ. Numerous healings, including the cure of a boy with a brain tumor, have been documented.

Timeline

Sept 25, 1983 First appearance of the Virgin to Gladys Quiroga de Motta
Oct 7, 1983 Gladys asked the Virgin what she wanted. Gladys:”I saw her and I asked her what she wanted of me. Then her image faded away and a chapel appeared. I understood that she wanted to be among us.”
Oct 12, 1983 Gladys discusses her experiences with a priest.
Oct 13, 1983 The Holy Virgin talks to her for the first time.
Nov 17, 1983 Gladys sprinkles holy water on the apparition.
Nov 19, 1983 Gladys is informed of her mission : “You will become the bridge of union. Proclaim my words.”
Nov 24, 1983 A shaft of light in the darkness shows Gladys where the Church should be built – on a wasteland called Campito on the banks of the Parana river. The ray of light is seen by other witnesses, a nine-year old girl.
Nov 27, 1983 Gladys recognizes the apparition when she sees an image of the Lady of Rosary relegated to the belfry of the diocesan cathedral because of damage. The Virgin referred to Exodus 25;8 in describing the church to be built. The passage says,”They shall make a sanctuary for me, that I may dwell in their midst.” The significance of the passage is that it contains the instructions given by God to the Israelites for builiding the Ark of the Covenant by means of which Yahweh would be present to them. The New Testament and the earlyChurch has consistently understood Mary to be the New Ark of the Covenant, who was the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and the Bearer of the Son. At San Nicolas, the Virgin was restating this teaching.
November 1984 Gladys is welcomed by the new bishop of San Nicolas, Domingo Salvador Castagna. The bishop has an audience with Pope John Paul II, at which he discusses the phenomenon.
April 1985 A Commision of Inquiry is named.

April 11 , 1987 Bishop Castagna has an audience with Pope John Paul II in Rosario, the main city of his diocese. The bishop promises the pope that he will direct a study of San Nicolas.
Oct 13, 1987 The building of the sanctuary begins.
March 19, 1989 Moving of the image from the cathedral and blessing and opening of the sanctuary.
Nov 1989 Bishop Castagna has another audience with the Pope.
Feb 11, 1990 The end of the cathechesis of Our Lady of San Nicolas.
July 25, 1990 Bishop Castagna said: “Undoubtedly this event of grace will continue ot grow; it has proved its authenticity by its spiritual fruits.”
Aug 25, 1990 Bishop Castagna consecrates the sanctuary and the pilgrims to God through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Nov 14, 1990 The Bishop issued an edict comprising an “Imprimatur” for the publication of the Spanish edition of the Messages of Our Lady to Gladys de Motta.

On October 5, 1938 Sister Faustina (Helen Kowalska)
died in a convent of the
Congregation of Sisters of
Our Lady of Mercy in Cracow, Poland

More information about St. Faustina can be found at the following web sites by clicking here and here:

In fulfillment of the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta’s prayer (see following excerpts from the “Book of Heaven”), the following year on August 25, 1905, Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, an apostle of Divine Mercy, was born.

Book of Heaven
The Call of the Creature to the Order, the Place and the Purpose
for which He was Created by God

The Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta the Little Daughter of the Divine Will:

Volume 6 – April 16, 1904
Jesus and God the Father speak about Mercy.

Continuing in my usual state, I found myself outside of myself, and I saw a multitude of people, and in their midst one could hear noises of bombs and gun shots.  People were dropping dead or wounded, and those who were left would flee up to a palace nearby; but the enemies would go up there and kill them, more surely than those who remained outside.

So I said to myself:  How I (Luisa) wish I could see whether the Lord is there in the midst of these people, so as to say to Him:  “Have mercy – pity on these poor people!”  So I went round and round and I saw Him as a little Child; but little by
little He kept growing, until He reached the perfect age.  I drew near Him and I said:  “Amiable Lord, don’t You see the tragedy that is happening?  You don’t want to make use of mercy anymore?  Do You perhaps want to keep this attribute as useless, which has always glorified your Incarnate Divinity with so much honor, forming a special crown on Your august head, and bejeweling You with a second crown, so wanted and loved by You – which is souls?

Now, while I was saying this, He told me:  “Enough, enough, do not go any further; you want to speak of Mercy, and what about Justice – what are we going to do with It?
I have told you and I repeat to you:  ‘It is necessary that Justice follow Its course’.”

So I replied:  “There is no remedy – why then leave me on this earth when I can no longer placate You and suffer in the place of my neighbor?  Since it is so, it is better
if You let me die.”

At that moment I saw another person behind the shoulders of blessed Jesus, and He told me, almost making a sign with His eyes:  “Present yourself to My Father and see what He tells you.”

I (Luisa) presented myself (to God the Father), all trembling, and as soon as He saw me, He told me:  “Why have you come to Me?”

And I (Luisa):  “Adorable Goodness, infinite Mercy, knowing that You are Mercy Itself, I have come to ask for your Mercy – Mercy on your very images, Mercy on the works created by You; Mercy on nothing else but your creatures themselves.”

And He (God the Father) said to me (Luisa):  “So, it is Mercy that you want.  But if you want true Mercy, after Justice has poured Itself out It will produce abundant fruits of Mercy.”

Not knowing what else to say, I (Luisa) said:  “Father, infinitely Holy, when servants or people in need present themselves before their masters or rich people, if these are good, even if they do not give everything that is necessary for them, they always give something.  And to me, who have had the good of presenting myself before You, absolute Master, rich without limit, infinite Goodness, don’t You want to give anything of what this poor little one has asked of You?  Does a master perhaps not remain more honored and content when he gives, than when he denies what is necessary to his servants?”

After a moment of silence He (God the Father) added:  “For love of you, instead of doing ten, I will do five.”

Having said this, They disappeared, and in several places of the earth, especially of Europe, I saw wars, civil wars and revolutions multiply.

Volume 6 – June 20, 1904
Victim souls are the daughters of Mercy.

After I struggled very much, blessed Jesus came for just a little and told me:  “My daughter, human perfidy has reached such a point as to exhaust My Mercy on its part.
But My goodness is so great as to constitute daughters of Mercy, so that on the part of creatures also, this attribute may not be exhausted.  These are the victims who are in full ownership of the Divine Will, having destroyed their own.  In fact, in these souls, the container given by Me in creating them is in full vigor, and since they have
received the particle of My Mercy, being daughters, they administer it to others.  It is understood, however, that in order to be able to administer the particle of My Mercy to others, they themselves must be in Justice.”

And I:  “Lord, who can ever be in Justice?”

And He:  “One who does not commit grave sins and abstains from committing the slightest venial sins of his own will.”

All of Heaven goes to meet the soul who fuses herself in the Divine Will

ECHO THE PRAYERS OF LUISA TO THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

BOOK OF HEAVEN

From the writings of the Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta

VOLUME 17

 January 4, 1925

How all of Heaven goes to meet the soul who fuses herself in the Divine Will. How all want to place their acts in her, and the noble martyrdom of the soul is formed.

Having completed my whole day, I was thinking to myself: ‘What else is left for me to do?’ And in my interior, I heard: “You, Luisa,  have to do the most important thing – your last act of fusing yourself in the Divine Will.”

So, according to my usual way, I started to fuse all my poor being in the Supreme Will; and as I was doing so, it seemed to me that the Heavens were opening, and I went to meet the whole Celestial Court, and all of Heaven came toward me. And my sweet Jesus told me: “My daughter  Luisa, fusing yourself in my Will is the most solemn act, the greatest one, the most important of all your life. To fuse yourself in my Will is to enter the sphere of Eternity, embrace It, kiss It, and receive the deposit of the goods which the Eternal Will contains. Even more, as the soul fuses herself in the Supreme Volition, all go to meet her, in order to communicate to her all the goods and the glory they have. The Angels, the Saints, the very Divinity – they all communicate, knowing that they communicate in that same Will in Which everything is safe. Even more, in receiving these goods, the soul multiplies them through her acts in the Divine Will, and gives back double glory and honor to the whole of Heaven. Therefore, by fusing yourself in my Will, you put Heaven and earth in motion. It is a new feast for the whole Heaven.

And since to fuse oneself in my Will is to love and to give, for each one and for all, without excluding anyone – in my Goodness, so as not to be won over in love by the creature, I place in her – in my Will – the goods of all, and all the possible goods I contain within Me. Nor can there be a lack of space in which to place all the goods, because my Will is immense, and is capable of receiving everything. If you knew what you do and what happens when you fuse yourself in my Will, you would eagerly yearn to do it continuously.

Afterwards, I was thinking about whether I had to write what is written above, or not. I didn’t see it as necessary, or as an important thing; more so, since obedience had given me no order to do it. And my sweet Jesus, moving in my interior, told me: “My daughter Luisa , how can it not be important to make it known that fusing oneself in my Will is to live in It? The soul who fuses herself in my Will receives, as though in deposit, all my divine and eternal goods. The very Saints compete with each other in order to deposit their merits in the soul fused in my Will, because they feel in her the Glory, the Power of my Will, and feel glorified in a divine manner by the littleness of the creature.

Listen, my daughter Luisa: to live in my Will surpasses even martyrdom in merit. Martyrdom kills the body, but living in my Will implies that the creature kills her own will with a divine hand, and It gives her the nobility of a divine martyrdom. And every time the soul decides to live in my Will, my Volition prepares the blow in order to kill the human will, and forms the noble martyrdom of the soul. But in order to reach this happy state, the human will and the Divine Will must be tied together: one has to give the place to the Other, and the human will must be content with remaining extinguished under the power of the Divine Will. Therefore, every time you dispose yourself to live in my Volition, you dispose yourself to undergo the martyrdom of your will.

Do you see, then, what it means to fuse oneself in my Will? It is to be the continuous martyr of my Supreme Will. And you think it’s trivial, or not important?”

10/3 Feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus

St. Theresa of the Child Jesus

 st. therese

Her Parents

Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin were beatified on October 19, 2008. Pope Francis is expected to canonize Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin, the parents of St. Therese of Lisieux, during the world Synod of Bishops on the family in October, 2015.

Her Early Years

Marie-Francoise-Therese Martin was born on January 2, 1873, and baptized two days later on January 4th. “All my life, God surrounded me with love. My first memories are imprinted with the most tender smiles and caresses…Those were the sunny years of my childhood.” Thus Therese, twenty-one years later, described her home life in Alencon, France. “My happy disposition,” she added with characteristic candor, “contributed to making my life pleasing.”

Her School Years

In October, 1881, Louis enrolled his youngest daughter (Therese) as a day boarder at Lisieux’s Benedictine Abbey school of Notre-Dame du Pre. Therese hated the place and stated “the five years (1881 – 1886) I spent there were the saddest of my life.” She worked hard, and loved catechism, history and science, but had trouble with spelling and mathematics. Her keenness aroused the envy of many fellow pupils, and Therese paid dearly for her academic successes.

Life at Lisieux Carmel

Marie Martin, the oldest daughter of the family, joined her sister Pauline at the Lisieux Carmel in 1886. Leonie Martin entered the Visitation Convent at Caen the following year. Therese then sought permission from her father to join Marie and Pauline at the Lisieux Convent. Three of his girls had already entered religious life, but Louis, characteristically generous, not only granted Therese’s request, but worked zealously to help her realize it.

Book of Heaven

From the writings of the Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta

VOLUME 10

November 29, 1910 (Luisa Piccarreta) –

“While I was saying this, my blessed Jesus made Himself seen looking in my interior, turning everything upside down to

see if there was something which He did not like. And while turning and turning, He took something like a grain of

white sand in His hands, and He threw it to the ground. Then He said to me: “Dearest daughter of Mine, it is absolutely

right that for one who is all for Me, I be all for her. I am too jealous that someone else might give her the slightest

comfort. I alone – I Myself alone want to make up for all, and in everything. What is it that afflicts you? What do you

want? I do everything to make you content. Do you see that white grain that I removed from you? It was nothing but a

little bit of anxiety, for you wanted to know my Will from others. I removed it from you and I threw it on the ground so

as to leave you in holy indifference – the way I want you.”

This is very similar to what the “Little Flower”, wrote in her journal called “Story of a Soul” where she writes:

“Unfortunately when I have compared myself with the saints, I have always found that there is the same difference

between the saints and me as there is between a mountain whose summit is lost in the clouds and a humble grain of sand

trodden underfoot by passers-by. Instead of being discouraged, I told myself: God would not make me wish for

something impossible and so, in spite of my littleness, I can aim at being a saint. It is impossible for me to grow bigger, so

I put up with myself as I am, with all my countless faults. But I will look for some means of going to heaven by a little

way which is very short and very straight, a little way that is quite new.

The message given to Luisa was on November 29, 1910. St. Therese died 13 years earlier in 1897 and afterwards her

Sisters sent 2,000 copies of Therese’s writings to other convents. By 1910 St. Therese’s writings would be well know by

the Religious in Luisa’s hometown.

It was also in 1910, while visiting the Trani Diocese to establish an orphanage, Father Hannibal Di Francia met Luisa

Piccarreta for the first time, most likely at the suggestion of her confessor, Fr. Gennaro Di Gennaro. Soon thereafter,

Father Hannibal found himself at the center of a loose association of priests who shared a common thirst for holiness and

a deep admiration for Luisa. Members of the group included Father Gennaro Braccale, S.J.; Father Eustacchio

Montemuro, founder of the Sisters of the Divine Side; and Father Ferdinando Cento, who later became a cardinal.
